Super Girls Power Gremio Coed

A cold night, a depleted squad and no subs didn't prevent Gremio Coed from winning the first game of the season. Powered by supergilrs Karin, Gina and Melissa (returning from a season off), the tricolor was able to escape away with a 2-1 win over DLL F.C.
DLL scored first but Gremio found forces to tie the game when returning player Chris Cash sent a nice feed to Mauricio, who from the top of the box fired a low shot past "The No Trash Cougar" GK.
Minutes later, Mauricio was fouled on the top of the box. He took the free kick, and found Karin near post as the Swedish forward just brushed the ball with her "tall hair" for a nice header goal, 2-1.
And that was all Gremio needed. Boosted by better late than never help from Sory, Gremio just had to milk the clock to secure the win.
Three Stars of the Game
1st Star - Karin: game winning goal
2nd Star - Jesse: Important saves, nearly got the shutout
3rd Star - Cash: assist and an incredible display of fitness after a long absence

"Quote of the Night": "I'm so tired. Go up and score some goals" by Karin giving Mauricio a tall order.

Late Night Special: Hat Tricks

Despite an 11:40pm kickoff, Gremio stayed awake and started the winter season with a convincing 6-2 win over Hellenic Flames. The tricolor had the return to the lineup of long-time player Rick, after battling some injuries. A pair of hat-tricks was the highlight of the night, with Pete and Mauricio counting for all goals scored by the tricolor.
Mauricio started off slow, missing wide on an open net off a perfect pass from Paul. But the veteran striker “totally redeemed himself” with a nice corner kick, finding Pete wide open, who hit a one-timer off the post and in for a 1-0 lead. Mauricio was fouled in the box and converted the PK for a 2-0 score. But Hellenic Flames got two quick goals to even things at 2.
Gremio also responded with two quick goals. Mauricio collected a bad clear by a defender for a 3-2 lead. Then, Pete scored twice completing his hat-trick. Mauricio put final numbers to the game 6-2, off a long pass by GK Berg.

Three Stars of the Game:
1st Star – Pete: 3 goals, about 11 takeaways
2nd Star – Mauricio: 3 goals, 2 assists
3rd Star – Rick: assist, solid as always, as if didn’t miss a single game.

Quote of the night: “You shut up” by Sory

Gremio Coed Shooting Drill

Gremio Coed continues its impressive run improving to 5-1-1 in the fall season. This time the tricolor walked away with a commanding 6-1 win over the Shooters. Gremio got things going when Sory found Mauricio wide open on the top of the box and sent a beautiful through pass and the striker just had to get it past the GK, 1-0. Minutes later Sory sent a perfect cross and Mauricio hit a one-timer for his second goal, 2-0. (No, it’s not a typo or an error. Yes, Sory had the game’s first 2 assists and his first 2-assist game ever).
Shooters made it 2-1 on a beautiful header but newcomer Sebastian reestablished a 2-goal lead with a nice touch over the GK, 3-1. Then, the goal of the night: Mauricio made a play of the left side and sent a left foot cross finding Gina far-post, and she nailed a perfect volley for a 4-1 lead. Then, the joke of the night: Josh scored off his knee when the GK popped out a rebound. Sebastian added another one for a 6-1 final score.
Gremio will wrap up the regular season next Wednesday at 10pm vs. Revenge of the House Team.

Gremio Wins, Finally

After two losses (and no blogs), Gremio finally found the winning track once again defeating Philly Inter by the score of 3-1. The tricolor ended a 2-game losing skid against a tired team playing back-to-back games. Brendan, Mauricio and Scott scored for Gremio and the tricolor will be back in action next Tuesday for the last regular season game against Just Kickin It at 9pm.

Gremio Coed Mangles Ligers United

Ligers got screwed
It wasn't the perfect start but good enough for the first win of the season as Gremio Coed also had to comeback from behind to beat Ligers United 3-1. Gremio Coed had two new players playing their first game for the tricolor. Matt was solid of defense and showed some aggressiveness at the end of the game. Jesse was also solid in net, making some key saves early in the game.
A defensive error by Gremio led to a goal for Ligers United. Down 1-0, the tricolor responded with some great passing. Kevin found Mauricio, who beat the defender and toe-kicked it in tying the game 1-1. Minutes later, Gina found Mauricio wide open on the top of the box, and the veteran forward turned and shot beating the keeper for a 2-1 lead.
Karin's sent a perfect through ball, putting Mauricio on a breakaway, as he dribbled the GK and just tap the ball into an empty net for the final score, 3-1.
It was Mauricio's second hat-trick in as many nights, something that hadn't happened for quite some time.
Gremio Coed returns to action next Wednesday night.

Gremio Kickoffs With Blowout Win

Gremio started the fall season at YSC in full-force mode with a 5-1 blowout win over rivals FC Force.
The win came in traditional Gremio come-from-behind style. FC Force drew first blood, when recently married GK Chris Berg was unable to stop an average shot (unless you just came back from your honeymoon). Chris explained what happened as the ball trickled through his hands and into the net, "It was too hard to handle". That's what she said.
The tricolor tied the game when Pete sent a magnificent pass, finding Mauricio wide open and the veteran striker just had to tap it in.
Mauricio struck again but this time with a great shot, after a nice pass from Kevin, hitting upper 90 for a 2-1 lead.
Pete made it 3-1 with a beautiful shot past the trashtalk keeper and Jon B. increased the lead to 4-1 hitting a knuckle-ball shot. Mauricio put final numbers on a header off the crossbar.
Scott played his first game for Gremio, showing some nice skills and solid defense.
Gremio will be back in action next Tuesday.

Night of Beautiful Goals

Gremio got a win and a tie out of the back to back games last night. The tricolor tied the first game against Roslyn 4-4 before defeating Hunter 4-1.

In the first game, Gremio jumped to a 1-0 lead on a goal by Pete, but Roslyn scored 3 answered goals and the tricolor looked in trouble. But Paul came to the rescue, scoring 2 goals to tie the game, the first one a beauty off the post and in. Dave put Gremio ahead 4-3 and Branden scored an incredible toe-kick upper 90 shot, only to be waived off by the terrible ref. Roslyn caught a break and tied the game at 4.

The second match was very competitive as well. Mauricio started things off, finally scoring on one of those long shots, 1-0. Hunter tied the game before David made a sensational individual play to put Gremio up 2-1. Pete, in very inspired night, added 2 more goals late in the game for a 4-1 final score.

Gremio finished the regular season with 16 points, 5 wins, 2 losses and 1 tie.
Playoffs will be played on August 16th.

Taking One For The Team

A couple weeks ago, Gremio defender Josh was hurt on a play and had to leave the game with a cut on his leg. We finally have evidence of the injury. Make your own judgment, as did Kevin, "I think the dude is faking it.....just saying". Josh hopes to be back in action for the playoffs in two weeks.

Soy Celeste

Congratulations to URUGUAY, the 2011 Copa America winners!
Led by Diego Forlan and Luis Suarez, the “celeste” defeated Paraguay in the final by the score of 3-0 and now holds solo possession of the highest number of Copa America wins with a total of 15.

Scoring Fest

Gremio Coed had not trouble defeating Rovers, winning the game 8-0. The scoring fest was led by hat-tricks by Arsene and David, with Jake and Mauricio also netting for the tricolor.
Gremio Coed heads to a busy week. The tricolor will play 2 games, on Wednesday Aug 3 versus Pivo at 8:06pm and on Thursday Aug 4 against FC Nick at 10:40pm.

Gremio Blanked

In one of the most defensive games of the history of YSC, Gremio was blanked by FPR losing a close game by the score of 1-0. The only goal came off a free-kick from inside the box and GK Berg had no chance. Sory led the defense on an outstanding night but the offense couldn't connect for the tying goal.
Up next, Gremio will have a double header next Tuesday Aug 2. First game at 8:48pm vs. Roslyn followed by at 9:30pm match vs. Hunter.

Slow Start Ends In Blowout Win

Gremio Coed beat Thundersnow 5-1 last night. Despite the blowout score, the tricolor had some difficulties to win the game. David scored for a 1-0 lead but Thundersnow responded right back tying the game. Gremio had control of the game with good passes but was struggling to finish the plays. That was until Arsene made it 2-1 finishing off a pass from Mauricio. Then, the game turned into a scoring fest. David scored his second of the game and Melissa scored off a nice feed from Karin. It was Melissa's first goal since the historical playoff goal last season. Gina put final numbers to the match, 5-1.
Gremio Coed is back in action next Wednesday against Rovers.

Gremio Returns To Form

Gremio defeated Roslyn 4-2 getting back to the winning mode in a night of beautiful goals. Rick scored a tap-in stealing a goal from Paul for a 1-0 lead.  Paul made it 2-0 but Roslyn cut the lead in half. Then, Brendan won 5 headers in a row with the last one setting up Dave, who lobbed the ball for a beauty, 3-1. Paul made 4-1 on a beautiful shot from the top of the box. Roslyn scored again but Jon B. almost saved it but the ball went off the post and in.
Gremio is now in 2nd place with 12 points (4-1-0). The next game will be against FPR, the current leader and only undefeated team.  With a win, the tricolor will take over first place in the standings.
