Gremio Coed Blasts Centocor

Gremio Coed gave Centocor no chance for a payback for their recent 3-1 defeat in the playoffs. Gremio jumped to an early lead in a very inspired night by all tricolor players. Gremio scored early and often, winning the game 5-1.
Jack made his official Gremio debut and couldn’t have started better. He scored the first goal of the game finishing a long pass by Mauricio. Moments later, Mauricio’s bad angle shot went off a defender and in for a 2-0 lead. Jack scored his second of the game once again, finishing a feed from Mauricio.Returning Swedish player Karin scored a toe-kick beauty after a terrific long pass by Brian, who also scored the fifth goal after a using his hand to settle the ball, no call no problem, we’ll take the goal.
Sory made his first ever appearance in goal in relief of John (from boredness), but let in the first shot on net. After some basketball handling in the box, Sory aka “not in my house” made his first save, finishing the game with a spectacular .500% save percentage. Do I hear Vezina Trophy candidate?
Up next, Gremio will take on long time rivals El Zanjon.

Gremio Just Win It

Gremio beat Just Kickin It last night by the score of 4-1. The tricolor defense was solid once again, not letting much of kicking in for the opponent team.
Paul had a goal and three assists leading Gremio to a 3-0-0 start, keeping the 100% winning percentage.
Pete opened up the score finishing a nice cross feed from Paul. After a questionable call, Just Kickin It was awarded a PK, tying the game, but Gremio responded seconds later when Garrett scored after a nice play with Paul.
Paul scored the third goal and Brendan finished it off for a 4-1 win.
Up next, Gremio will play Morocco, the other team with 100% winning percentage, for the chance to take solo possession of first place.

Gremio Coed Wins in Comeback Fashion

Gremio Coed started the spring season with a win but that was a rocky one. Down 2-0 with less than 10 minutes in the game, Gremio found a way to score 3 goals for the first win of the season, 3-2 in comeback style.
Josh scored the first goal for the tricolor, which was originally credited to Mauricio, who took the shot. But after multiple reviews in the situation room in Toronto, it was confirmed that Josh did touch the ball before it crossed the line, would have it been off-sides? Good thing they don’t call that at YSC. John scored the tying and the winning goal with less than 3 minutes left to win honors of “man of the match”. A win is a win, but Gremio can certainly play better than that.Karin missed the game but should be back in the lineup for the next game.

Gremio Has Lift Off

Gremio has lift off for the spring season. The opening night had an unexpected double header, and the tricolor made the best out of it: 2 wins.
Gremio kicked off the season with a come-from-behind 6-4 win over WCA. Christmas is long gone but one of WCA's defender decided to play St. Claus and gave Mauricio a sweet gift and he only had to tap it in for an early 1-0 lead. Then, Kevin took a hard shot from the top of the box and Mauricio deflected it in, hockey style, 2-0. WCA came back and tied the game at 2, but after a textbook "give and go" between Mauricio and Pete, Pete finished it off for a 3-2 lead.
WCA came back once again and took a 4-3 lead but Garrett tied things up and Gremio went on to score 3 answered goals to seal the victory.
The second game of the double header was against division B Veracruz. "Los Hermanos" put up a good fight, but Gremio beat the fatigue, scoring two counter attack goals courtesy of Pete and Jon B.
Chris Berg and Kevin (what a surprise) had the split shutout in net, making some sensational FIFA soccer saves. Gremio will be back in action next Tuesday at 8:06pm against Just Kickin It.

Gremio Coed: Winter 11 Runners-Up

Gremio Coed had a great run in the winter 11 playoffs, coming close to its fourth championship title after falling short in the championship game. The night started with an easy 5-0 win over Kaka Cocoa Puffs, led by two goals by Josh and another nice goal by Karin.
In the second round, Gremio Coed played a sloppy game but was able to escape with a 2-1 overtime win, courtesy of the game-winner by Karin.
Up next, the scrappy Red Cards. No, we did not forget the wacky regular season game and the tricolor played its best game of the night. Solid defensively Gremio kept controlling the game but could not find the back of the net until GK Brian phenomenal long throw put Mauricio on a breakaway, and he just took one soft touch and the ball went off the post and in for the game winner. Final score 1-0. That's right, we win when it matters.
The semi-final game was another battle. Battling fatigue, Gremio stayed hot defeating Rovers by the score of 3-1 on goals by Mauricio twice and Ged.
Gremio ran out of gas and had to settle for the silver medal after losing to the Muts 2-1. Well done Gremio, great run!

Close, But No Cigar

That was a great playoff run. Three wins, two in overtime, the longest overtime game in YSC history beating one of the best teams in the league, all of this action took place prior falling in the semi-finals to the eventual champions.
Gremio played great throughout the night. The memorable run started with a 2-0 win over Goal Miners. Next, a rematch against Youse Guys. After trailing 1-0, Gremio tied sending the game to OT. With great ball possession, Gremio sent the guys home after Pete scored the game winner, 2-1.
Up next, Danubia. Gremio jumped to a 2-0 lead courtesy of two goals by Ged but a couple bad breaks and the lead was gone. In OT, Gremio had good ball possession once again. After 12 minutes of OT, Paul appears to have scored the game winner but a player saved it as the ball was going in. Then what? Nobody knew the rules. A GK was allowed back in the game to try to defend the PK. A weird rule that now leads us to give that a try too. Nevertheless, Mauricio took the PK and scored for the 3-2 win.
Back on the field and running out of gas, Gremio was still able to put up a good fight eventually losing 2-1 to FC COD.
Well done guys.
